McComb residents show support for hometown American Idol contestant La'Porsha Renae

MCCOMB, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

In the City of McComb, all eyes will be on the American Idol's finale tonight as they rally behind  native La'Porsha Renae. One year ago she was unknown, now win, lose or draw LaPorsha will always be a "hometown hero in the in McComb.

Over at Dave's barbershop, folks were all abuzz about the American Idol finale and their girl, La'Porsha Renae, possibly bringing home the crown to the Magnolia State.

“She brings that love ballad back to audience. It's an audience that loves music that she attracts and I am one of them, ” said McComb resident C. F. Catchings.

Her friends and family said not only is La’Porsha talented, but her unique style makes her a standout.

“I think her hair plays a big factor, just because of the hair, she can win with her hair,” said a McComb resident.

Traveling the streets of McComb,  the support was evident from the dozens signs asking folks to vote for La’Porsha, to friends speaking so highly of her character and her determination after overcoming abuse and heartache in her life as a single mother .

“I think with the struggles she has been through in her life and how she turned those things around to make positive for other people, it is just awesome," said another McComb resident.

Over at her McComb High, students and her former teachers said since she was a youngster she has always been humble and this is her time to shine.

“I have seen her perform here at school. It is absolutely amazing to showcase her talent," said teacher Oliver Smith  "When we talked about goals she wanted to be a star.” 

“She could put on a show in high school," said Susan Huckabey. "She had good stage presence and she always has. We are praying for her to win.”
