FLASHBACK to APRIL 8, 1994: Highland Colony Parkway, a new four-lane road from West County Line Road in Jackson north to Highway 463 in Madison, opens to traffic.

Developers and elected officials cut a ceremonial ribbon to dedicate the parkway that meandered its way through what had been mostly farm land, roughly parallel and to the west of Interstate 55. The elected officials on hand that day included Rep. G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery, Mayor Kane Ditto of Jackson, Mayor Gene McGee of Ridgeland, Mayor Mary Hawkins of Madison, and Supervisor David Richardson of Madison County.

There were no businesses or neighborhoods on the parkway then, but that soon changed. Office buildings, churches, shopping centers, schools, retirement homes and a cemetery have opened along the parkway, and more development is planned.
