Funeral arrangements set for Corrice Collins

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Many are mourning the loss of one of Jackson's first African-American reporters and anchors, Corrice Collins.

At age 72, he passed away Saturday night.

Family says Collins died after a long battle with cancer.

He began working at WLBT in the late 1960's.

He left Jackson for Missouri in the 80's, then came back to serve as WLBT's assignment editor and later worked as the assistant news director.

In 2012, Collins was honored by the Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters Association, for helping break the color barrier.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 15, 1pm-6pm. at Lakeover Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.  

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at College Hill Baptist Church, located at 1600 Florence St. in Jackson.
