Severe weather moved into the metro Monday evening, leaving trees on homes, across roads, and extensive flash flooding that left some stranded in cars.

We have been getting the warnings from our First Alert Weather team for several days to be on the lookout for heavy rain, high winds and flash flooding.  The system began moving in Monday afternoon catching drivers in the evening commute trying to navigate through blinding rain and high water.  In Jackson vehicles were submerged.

Water covered the streets at Fortification and Blair. On Mt. Vernon a car had to be pushed out of high water with a child inside who managed the steer the vehicle as he was moved to safety.

This Clinton neighborhood saw yards with small water falls. Heavy rain left waves surging  through Dunton Road.  Trees were no match for the high winds and the ground already saturated.

We found at least 3 trees down on Pocahontas Road in Hinds County. One partially blocking the roadway. The tree also hit part of a home but we only saw what appeared to be minor damage.

But in the Rollingwood neighborhood off Old Canton Road in Jackson a tree hit the roof of this home, causing significant damage.
