WARREN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Vicksburg man is in Warren County Jail without bond after he attempted to escape authorities twice.

According to Sheriff Martin Pace, two MDOC probation agents served 28-year-old John Hart an arrest warrant at his apartment complex in Vicksburg on Monday.

After he was handcuffed, Hart resisted arrest and broke away from the MDOC officers.

MDOC called the Sheriff's department and VPD to assist in finding him.

On Tuesday morning, police pulled a car over during a routine traffic stop on North Washington Street.

Hart was the passenger in the car and he jumped out when police approached.

He ran to the marshy area between North Washington Street and the Yazoo River.

VPD's K-9 units and Warren Co Sheriff's Department were called to the scene, where they blocked off a portion of the Yazoo River and tracked Hart through the marsh.

Sheriff Pace says Hart jumped into the river to avoid capture and swam for about 20-30 minutes before climbing a willow tree at the edge of the water.

He was only wearing jeans and socks when he was found.

The Sheriff's office sent a patrol boat to rescue Hart and transported him to the bank where paramedics met the officers.

The paramedics took Hart to River Region Medical Center, under guard, where he was treated for hypothermia.

He was released and booked into the Warren County Jail on Tuesday where he is without bond.
