The Mississippi Supreme Court has suspended Chancellor David Shoemake for 30 days, fined him $2,500 and assessed him court costs of $5,8882.67 for his part in the mishandling of the Victoria Denise Newsome Trust.
Another Simpson County Chancellor, Joe Dale Walker, was removed from the bench and served a federal prison term for his part in the case.
The Commission on Judicial Performance had recommended that Shoemake also be removed, but the count decided to impose a less severe penalty and criticized the commission for not following its own rules.
