Jackson residents learn how to help reduce dilapidated lots

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Many Jackson residents took part in learning more about the Neighbors First Program Saturday.

Jackson residents now have the opportunity to help clean up their city and get rid of neglected properties near them.

The Neighbors First Program is underway in the city and people can buy dilapidated lots adjacent to their homes.

If eligible to purchase those lots, the new property owner will sign a contract agreeing to clean up the property and maintain it.

Some of these properties are going for as low as $10.00.

Saturday many residents came out to the Jackson Police Training Academy to learn more.

"I think it's awesome. I think it's great for the city. We will be able to reconstruct the city and help the neighborhoods of the city of Jackson," said Devon Purvis.

For more information regarding the program and to see if you are eligible, log on to the city's website at jacksonms.gov.
