Rankin County Deputies have arrested Demond Alexander and charged him with arson, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He's accused with setting fire to a trailer on Johnson Circle, in south Rankin County, with his wife and five children inside.

A domestic assault call came in to Rankin 911 around 3 a.m. at 194 Johnson Circle. Deputies saw the suspect, Demond Alexander, run from the residence into a wooded area. Deputies didn't go after him at the time, but turned their attention to smoke coming from the rear of the trailer.

Alexander apparently set a fire next to the mobile home and the skirting, siding and the underside caught fire. Deputies were able to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers before any additional damage was done. No one was injured in the fire.

Later in the morning, deputies received a tip that Alexander was hiding on Pursue Road and arrested him without incident following a short foot chase.

Alexander will be held until his initial appearance before Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel. He's charged with arson, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He will also face a domestic violence charge.
