JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson resident Jeffery Stallworth has filed suit in federal court challenging HB 2162, which allows the state to take control of Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport, abolish it's Board of Directors, and replace it with a new board.

Stallworth, in his lawsuit, calls this a hostile takeover of the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority and asks that the court enjoin the state from taking the airport from the city of Jackson.

HB 2162 would replace the current board, currently appointed by Jackson's Mayor with a nine-member board where the Mayor and Jackson City Council would only have one appointment each. The governor would have two appointments, and the Lt. Governor, the Mississippi Development Authority, the Adjutant General, Rankin County and Madison County wound have one appointment each.

Stallworth has named Governor Bryant, the State of Mississippi, the Mississippi Legislature, East Metro Parkway and the Mississippi Department of Transportation in the suit which was filed in the Southern District of Mississippi.
