JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The landscape in Jackson is changing. Two Mississippi museums are set to open in 2017, and there will be plenty of lodging.

Four new hotels are in progress, which is a plus for business visitors and tourists to the capitol city.

Two hotels will be going up soon in historic Fondren. Sixty-year-old Kolbs Cleaners eventually will serve as the lobby for The Fondren, a nine-story boutique hotel.

Developers will soon break ground on a Hampton Inn called The Whitney.

More choices for visitors to lodge in name brand hotels gives Jackson a competitive edge according to Visit Jackson's, Yolanda Clay-Moore.

"Everybody likes new. so you have neighboring cities putting up new properties so we get to add to that list as well".

Not only will the skyline change but officials are planning to upgrade the water/sewer infrastructure. Parking will be added along with retail shopping at the new hotels. That always means growing pains in the construction areas, with the end result a huge plus.

"We are bidding for conferences and events to be hosted in Jackson. A lot of those organizations require brand recognition.

They want to stay in a familiar property so they can recognize the brand, so that's very, very important to the city of Jackson," according to Clay-Moore.

And when it comes to a high end brand name, in downtown Jackson the new luxury 9-story Westin Hotel is taking shape floor by floor.

On Interstate 55 north, work is underway on the Residence Inn at a mixed use development called the District at Eastover.

Over 400 hotel rooms, ready to welcome business travelers and tourists to the capitol city.
