JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

According to Deputy Police Chief Bobby Stewart, a water line ruptured on North Washington Street near the National Military Park in Vicksburg.

Traffic went down to one lane in each direction from First East Street to Haining Road until this morning.

Work crews are working on the scene.

The main line is 36 inches and it supplies the entire city of Vicksburg with water.

Thankfully, the issue causing the rupture was with the 6-inch line and should be resolved by this evening, according to officials.

The leak was first reported around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Crews were called back around 4 p.m. because the leak had gotten bigger.

Officials were finally able to seal off the break.

The 4 lane traffic is now down to two lanes and drivers are being re-routed.
