A singer who got her big break in the business singing with music icon Prince is in Jackson.
Niyoki which means strong mind was the featured soloist at Pearl Street A.M.E. Church Friday night. She is now a gospel artist.
The singer tells us she performed in Mississippi years ago.
She and her sisters went to Paisley Park to meet Prince and were almost turned away.
Niyoki said, "There was someone in the back listening that went and told Prince that there was a girl group at the door and Prince said have them come in. And so we were able to come in and sing for him and the rest is history. He loved our sound, he loved our harmony and he wanted to take us on as his background singers."
Niyoki says Prince's talent was so great he will never be forgotten. She was recently ordained to the Baptist Church. Her latest song is called Praise Him In My Pain.
