This is the second time in one week violent behavior and a gun has been connected to or near Jackson Public Schools.

Three on Your Side looked at what JPS plans to do about security measures at JPS.

The actual carjacking and assault happened just blocks away from Davis Elementary at the intersection of Congress and George Streets.

"I would say that with him just being security that he went out of his way to see if he could catch the guy," said witness Charlotte McGowan.

Witness of the carjacking and aggravated assault that happened just yards away from Davis Elementary School, parent Charlotte McGowan, said Jackson Public Schools security immediately reacted.

"I work in that type of field so I would say he went out of his job description," added McGowan. "I know he went and followed the car because when I circled the block he had his lights on trying to follow the car also."

This is the second incident that has happened this week where violent actions involving a gun have happened on or near a Jackson Public School. We talked to the district's spokesperson Sherwin Johnson about plans to make for a safer area especially since school is still in session.

"We did have our security staff here this morning," said Johnson. "Our security team will continue to do what they always do and do their best to protect the employees and students of our school district. I don't think the routine will change any. We are going to keep doing what we've been doing."

"He reacted pretty well, I would think. If it was me, he reacted the way I would want him to react even though he was just Jackson Public Schools system security." said McGowan.

Police said it's important to be vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times.
