STARKVILLE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

According to WTVA in Tupelo, a Mississippi State University student died in a fall from the top of the Jumbotron in Davis Wade stadium on the MSU campus.

Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt says 21-year-old Andrew Scott Demboski, of Ocean Springs, died from head injuries following the fall at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He and two other students reportedly climbed to the top of the video board and he slipped and fell from a wide sheet metal awning that spans the top of the device.

He fell about 18 feet onto a platform, landing on his head, Hunt said. He also said that it appeared to be a "tragic accident".

The Starkville Fire Department had to use rescue techniques to get him down from the platform. Emergency responders worked on Demboski for about about an hour while he was being removed to the ground level but could not save him, Hunt said.

A helicopter was waiting outside the stadium to take him to a hospital.

It is still unclear how the students managed to get into the stadium.

MSU spokesman Sid Salter told WTVA that the university plans to issue a statement later this morning.

An autopsy on Demboski has been scheduled.

The tragic accident occurred on the morning on MSU's graduation ceremony.

We will update this story as more information is released.
