JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A man accused of 2nd degree murder in Jackson faced a judge Monday, but soon he'll meet with a doctor.

Donnell Johnson is accused of crashing into a car driven by Lonnie Blue, who was killed. It happened during a police chase out of Clinton in March. Smith arrived in court in a wheelchair, and his leg was swollen and discolored.

Judge Melvin Priester ordered him to have a medical evaluation at CMMC immediately, and said he's seen too many cases where inmates don't get adequate medical care.

Hinds County Sheriff Victor Mason told us that Johnson had been in the jail's medical unit since the day he was arrested because of his injuries. Mason says the jail's medical services are contracted through the county and not through the sheriff's office.

Johnson's case was bound over to a Grand Jury.
