Motorists in Jackson have seen them before, cavernous black holes in the middle of a street. Orange barrels keep motorists at bay.
One so-called sinkhole appeared over the weekend  in south Jackson and was several feet deep.

We went back to the scene Monday and found work crews had dug out the sinkhole.  They found a broken sewer line under the pavement.  Public Works employee Douglas Davis told us the cause of the problem.

"Well what we have here is a collapsed sewer line caused by the dirt we call Yazoo clay, and we're going to repair it, put another piece of pipe in there, fill it and open the road back up."

Crews expected to have all of that wrapped up by Monday night. No word on when the final layer of asphalt will be added to complete the repair.
