Firefighters battle raging fire that destroys Flora home

FLORA, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Thick black smoke filled the air in northern Hinds county Monday afternoon where fire destroyed a home in Flora. Several fire crews rushed to the scene in hopes of saving the house and anyone who may have been inside it.

Flames were rising from the structure when firefighters arrived at the home in the 1700 block of Pocahontas Road in Flora. Responders found the house fully engulfed and were unable to save it.

The Brownsville and Pocahontas Volunteer Fire Departments responded. Four units were on scene trying to put out the fire.

Hinds County Emergency Management Director Rickey Moore said crews were called at 5:22 p.m. Monday. Despite their efforts, flames destroyed the older wooden structure.

Moore said the home was occupied by an elderly couple. No one was injured in the fire.

The house is a total loss. The cause of that fire remains under investigation.
