Court denies Southaven ex-mayor's attempt to overturn ruling

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Former Southaven Mayor Greg Davis has lost in court again.

The Mississippi Court of Appeals Tuesday rejected a move by Davis to reconsider its December ruling. That judgment upheld a May 2014 decision by Hinds County Chancery Judge Dewayne Thomas ordering Davis to repay $73,000 for improper expenses billed to Southaven.

Thomas' ruling culminated a three-year showdown between Davis and the state auditor's department regarding his use of a city credit card and reimbursement of expenses, including mileage.

Davis contended the expenses were legitimate because he was acting as Southaven mayor and promoting the DeSoto County city. After initially losing, he told the appeals court it should reconsider because it didn't understand his arguments the first time, saying that because aldermen approved expenses, any repayment should be their problem.
