The mayor and city financial officers were absent from Monday's Jackson City Council special meeting, leaving money questions unanswered.
Council President Melvin Priester asked Marsh and Crisler, the city's Chief Administrative Officer, if he knew how much money was left in the general fund and if there was a reserve deficiency. Crisler could not provide any answers.
Tuesday, we asked Mayor Tony Yarber if he had any numbers regarding possible deficits in the city budget.
"It's the same as it was when we started talking about it two years ago," said the Mayor. "When we knew that budgeting practices at some point, that we had been practicing over the course of the city's history, would come home to roost."
We may learn more about the city's finances later this week. A meeting to include a discussion of the general fund budget has been set for Thursday morning at 10.
