Evidence recovered in Jackson homicide

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson police served a search warrant Wednesday  evening in the 300 block of Northtown Drive in connection to the shooting death of Chivas McElveen.

Commander Tyree Jones says McElveen was killed on Northtown Road Monday night.  Christopher Bennett is now in custody and is charged with murder.

Jones says officers recovered a Ford F-350 pickup and one person was detained for questioning but Jones says they don't expect that person to be charged.

"We came here, we executed the search warrant," said Commander Jones. "We were able to recover a vehicle, with a substantial amount of evidence we believe may be connected to that homicide. We also collected some evidence inside the residence that we believe may be connected to the homicide as well."

Twenty-nine year-old Bennett turned himself in Wednesday afternoon.

McElveen was shot multiple times. Police believe he was a robbery victim.

Another person was also shot but survived.
