FORREST COUNTY (Mississippi News Now) -

A Forrest County jury has convicted 30-year-old Jairus Collins for a second time in the December 2011 shooting death of Ebony Jenkins.

Collins was found guilty of Jenkins' death in 2013, but the decision was overturned on appeal.

The 27-year-old Jenkins, a former Southern Miss basketball player, was found dead in a wooded area.

She was shot twice in the back.

Collins stood silently before Circuit Judge Bob Helfrich Wednesday as the judge handed down a life sentence.

Collins is considered a habitual offender, as he has had other felony convictions including a February conviction for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, in which he received life, without the possibility of parole.

The jury deliberated 50 minutes before returning a guilty verdict.
