ADAMS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Corporal Brandon Fortenberry with MHP said two people were killed Sunday afternoon in an Adams County accident.

Fortenberry said authorities received a call around 12:45 p.m. about the deadly accident that occurred on Highway 61 near White Apple Road.

The Adams County coroner said the driver, 34-year-old Mika Peoples of Calhoun, La., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Twenty-seven-year-old Shana LeBlanc of Gonzales,La., was a passenger in the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at Merit Medical, the coroner said.

Fortenberry said the 2005 Chevrolet car, the women were in, was traveling south on Hwy. 61 when it ran off the road to the right and struck a tree.

Peoples was ejected from the vehicle and LaBlanc was thrown into the backseat.
