KKK fliers left outside Belhaven residents' homes

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Several Belhaven residents made a shocking discovery Sunday morning, finding Klu Klux Klan fliers outside their doors.

The printed paper tells people they can "sleep in peace knowing the Klan is awake."

Many who live in Belhaven Heights told 3 On Your Side they couldn't believe the hate group would leave these recruitment fliers in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the Capital City.

"We are a tight-knit community, so you're concerned when you have neighbors that receive that type of thing, and they immediately have fear because of it," said one resident, who declined to give her name out of fear of repercussions.

Another who requested his name be withheld said he thinks they just wanted to make a statement.

"Wherever they can get the biggest reaction, again, that's what they want. We just hope that hopefully this message gets out that we're not mad at you. We don't have any type of feeling towards you. We just hope that you have a change of heart," the resident said.

A member of the Belhaven Neighborhood Association said someone contacted Jackson police about the fliers and they're looking into it.
