The tragic Amtrak train-truck accident killing a father and his two children still weighs heavy on the minds of people in The Flora community. The driver is identified as 35 year old Michael Allen.

The passengers, his children: seven year old Mikilah West and 18-month-old Michael Allen III.

The collision happened Wednesday night at the intersection of Kearney Park and Simmons Road.

“It was so awful, my niece’s husband and the two kids. I don't have words for this,” said uncle John Denson.

Moments after the accident, loved ones of Michael Allen and his two kids rushed to the scene to find a mangled mess after the Amtrak train slammed into the family's pickup truck.

“He had just picked the kids up from the daycare when he accident happen,” said a family member.

According to police, they believe Allen got distracted or didn't see the train coming.

At the intersection there are no crossing arms, instead flashing lights to warn drivers, something many folks in the area have complained about for years.

“I think a crossing rail should be put there because of the trees," said resident Sterling Thompson. "When the Amtrak train comes through it is coming through pretty quick.”

As police continue their investigation. the family of Allen said it's still very difficult to wrap their minds around the fact that such a great father, husband and Christian is now gone.

“Michael, you couldn't have had a better husband. The guy was easy going,”  said grandfather Aaron King.

The children were also loved by so many in the town.  Loved ones said little Michael loved the outdoors, and was very friendly. His sister Mikilah is known for her big smile  and even big heart especially at East Flora elementary.

“She was one of our brightest stars," said principal Capucine Robinson. " Actually on Monday we had awards day and she won the citizenship award. That was the type a child she was, a jewel.”
