RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A man who tried to elude Rankin County authorities Saturday night was arrested after driving his vehicle into a Flowood lake.

A deputy noticed a Blue Saturn Ion with a paper dealership tag and the vehicle matched the description of a suspect vehicle in a larceny earlier in the day.

When the deputy turned on his lights, the suspect fled, driving at high speeds in and out of the median on Old Fannin Road. He turned onto Flowood Drive, then onto North Airport Road towards Lakeland Drive.

Flowood Police set spike strips, and to avoid them, he crashed through the gate of a business onto a gravel road and went into a small lake.

He got out of the vehicle and continued to elude police by swimming away. Officers caught up with him as he reached the bank

Anthony D. Perry of Jackson had prior arrests for shoplifting, embezzlement, receiving stolen property, petit larceny and identity theft in Mississippi and Lottery fraud in South Carolina.

In Rankin County, he is charged with felony fleeing and grand larceny. He will have his initial appearance before County Court Judge Kent McDaniel.
