Meridian man convicted of burning homes owned by his son

MERIDIAN, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Meridian man has been convicted of intentionally burning two homes that were owned by his son.  

52-year-old James William Wiggins entered an open plea to one count of first degree arson and one count of second degree arson in Lauderdale County.

Attorney General Jim Hood says the first fire was set August 23, 2013, and the second on March 12, 2014. Wiggins confessed to setting the fires.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for July 6 in Lauderdale County Circuit Court.

Wiggins faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison plus restitution for property damages for the first degree arson conviction and up to 10 years in prison for the second degree arson conviction.
