JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Investigators say they believe a homeless person started Tuesday night's fire on High Street.

The blaze began shortly after 9  p.m. in the building between Popeye's and Chimneyville Smokehouse.

Zercon Smith, owner of Chimneyville, says it's been without a tenant for years and their security cameras from around the time of the fire appear to show a homeless man and a lighter.

"Maybe lighting a cigarette a few times, then the new thing you know it looks like he was trying to put out a small fire and that's when it caught fire. Didn't look like he did it intentionally, just bad luck I guess," Smith said.

The Jackson Fire Department is classifying the fire as an incendiary fire, adding they continue to actively investigate.
