COPIAH COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Emergency responders say the body of one of the men trapped in a gravel pit since last Friday has been found.

Family, friends and former classmates say the missing gravel pit worker that emergency crews are still searching for is Emmitt Shorter and that James Dee Hemphill is the body that authorities found.

Authorities have not confirmed this nor have they released the identity of the body found.

At around 2:30 am, MEMA said that Green Brothers Gravel Company found the body inside of equipment inside the gravel pit in Crystal Springs.

Mississippi's "Task Force Two" Search and Rescue team and additional crews located the worker and removed him from the equipment.

Crews are continuing the search for the second worker.

Hemphill and Shorter were buried alive last Friday morning when the gravel pit they were working in collapsed on top of them.

Earlier in the week recovery crews spotted an excavator and haul truck that sank with the men.
