JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Many Mississippi leaders have responded to Sunday's attack at an Orlando gay nightclub that left 50 people dead, including the shooter, and many more injured.

In a statement on Facebook, Governor Phil Bryant asked Mississippians to join in prayer for peace.

Governor Bryant has also issued an executive order, lowering flags to half-staff to mourn the victims in Orlando.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann has also released a statement saying,

"We are deeply saddened over the terrorist attack in Orlando. Any attack on any citizen is an attack on us all. This doubles our resolve to defeat hatred and those who would destroy our form of government.
At this time, we should also remember Agent Lee Tartt and other Mississippi Law Enforcement officers who daily protect our citizens at the risk of their own lives.

We pray for the victims, their families, and our country."

Attorney General Jim Hood shared a similar Facebook post saying that Mississippians are standing behind those in Orlando.

"Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go to the families of the victims of this senseless tragedy in Orlando. The law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line to prevent additional violence have our deepest gratitude. Mississippi stands behind you."

Greenville Mayor Errick Simmons has also ordered all flags on city property to be flown at half-mast.

Simmons made the following statement:

“The City of Greenville stands with Orlando, the victims and the family members of the Orlando mass shooting, and the rest of the country against the acts of terror and hatred that occurred in the early morning of June 12, 2016, in Orlando’s nightclub Pulse.  The time is now for us as one to stand together in love against hatred and terror toward any person or persons based on race, gender, and/or sexual orientation.  Greenville stands with the LGBTQ community and against violence anywhere toward any group or class of people.”

This attack is the deadliest mass shooting in the country's history.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.
