The Jackson police department has purchased 39 stun guns for officers to use on the street.
This was announced in Tuesday night's city council meeting. Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance says the weapons give officers another option to save lives without killing people.
"The intent of the tasers...it's a less lethal weapon. It gives us an opportunity to deal with combative, out of control violent suspects in many cases...without having to shoot them".
He said that the officers have all been trained for using these weapons.
