JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson police are looking for three or four thieves who broke into the Briarwood Gas Mart on Briarwood Drive in Jackson and stole the ATM.

Security bars and surveillance cameras didn't stop burglars from backing up a stolen white Ford F-250 pick-up truck and ramming it into the gas station. Once windows were busted several people pulled the ATM from the store and loaded it onto the back of the truck. The vehicle was recovered Thursday morning on Gallatin Street. Bob Singh who owns the gas station property says the criminals need to get jobs.

"They need to go to work to make real money, this is fake money, how many days will they survive," says Singh.

Thursday's stolen ATM marks the third one stolen in the metro area in past four weeks. JPD Commander Tyree Jones says the suspect information, vehicle and way the crime was pulled off is very similar to recent crimes. Last week criminals stole an ATM from the West Express Quick Stop on Fortification Street in Jackson. Just three days ago burglars attempted to steal an ATM from the Jasco convenience store on Woodrow Wilson Avenue also in Jackson. The ATM from Walgreens on Meadowbrook Road in Jackson was stolen in May and there was an attempt at the store in Madison.

"I can't elaborate at this time on what the motive is or what these individuals see that lead them to these locations to commit these types of crimes, but again we are looking at all aspects of that," says Commander Jones.

Singh is hoping for more security from police. In the meantime, he says some convenience store owners are considering doing business out of Jackson.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or 601-355-TIPS (8477).
