BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Rankin County Deputies are looking for a man who may have impersonated a police officer and stole more than $2,500 worth of merchandise from the Van's Deer Processing & Sporting Goods Shop in Brandon. The entire incident was caught on tape.

“I am mad. I am mad,’ said shop owner Van Allen.

The Sporting Shop owner is upset someone stole some of his expensive fishing and sports merchandise Tuesday.

“The crossbow he stole sells for $1400 dollars," added Allen. "He had other things in his basket. I am suspecting he got away with around $2,500 worth of stuff.”

Allen had hidden cameras that caught it all. The surveillance video shows a white male come through the side door come into the store with handcuffs, a gun and sunglasses.

Allen said he then pretended to shop, but instead of going to the cash register after picking up a few items, he walked out the door without paying.

“We got parking lot cameras and inside and he was here 27 minutes," said Watchman Security worker Jimmy Walker. "He shopped and talked to employees. He was very calm and collective about it.” .

“If he is trying to pass himself off as law enforcement, we don't want it and need it,” said Rankin County Investigator D-LO Thornton.

The Rankin County Sheriff's Department is the lead agency in the case.

“He left in a mid-2000 Ford Taurus," said Thornton. "He left on what appeared to be a T-shirt over his tag number, over his license plate. At this point we welcome any help from the public.”

Around this time of year, Allen says sports stores like his tend to be a target for theft.

“It is easy to sell," said Allen. "It is very easy to sell.  Not only does the theft hurt me, it hurts anybody that buys a product.”
