VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

All 44 contestants arrived in Vicksburg Sunday, preparing for the pageant and the first night of preliminary competition.

Contestants will spend hours on stage at the Vicksburg Convention Center working to make sure every move gets them one step closer to the Miss Mississippi crown.

"I've taken a full year to really prepare for this year," said Ivey Swan, Miss Leaf River Valley. "I want to further my education and go to grad school, but I really wanted to take a gap year to really focus on this because this is such a huge dream of mine."

The contestants have already been divided into three groups. The first group had judges’ interviews Monday morning. After rehearsals, preparing for the production numbers each night, the contestants will greet family, friends and supporters at the annual Parade of Contestants.

"I'm just going to make a career out of trying to become Miss Mississippi, because this is my fifth year but I can't remember summers before Miss Mississippi," said Randi Kathryn Harmon, Miss Red Carpet City. "It's just become second nature. And I love this week. It develops the woman I want to become."

This year, supporters and followers of the pageant were able to submit questions that will be asked on stage during competition.

The first night of preliminary competition begins Wednesday.
