VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Miss Mississippi 2016 will be crowned before a sold out audience at the Vicksburg Convention Center Saturday night.

Wednesday night preliminary competition got underway. Laura Lee Lewis, a veteran of the pageant and a former Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen, took top honors in Talent.

Miss Vicksburg, Katie Busby, who is a nursing student, won in Swimwear.

"I definitely promote healthy lifestyle, especially in my nursing career," said Busby. "Lots of the patients I do have are obese and not in shape and they do not have healthy diets and so it is my job to promote that and to make those changes in other people’s lives.

"I've been singing since I was three," said Lewis. "My mom is a voice teacher. She's a musician, so music has been a part of my life for a very long time. I've been working very hard on this piece.  It is difficult but tonight I just had so much fun with it because I've been prepared and preparing for this for a long time."

There are two more nights to go in the Preliminary Competition. Once again the contestants will compete in talent, swimwear, evening wear and on stage question.

Round two begins Thursday night at 8 p.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center.
