Miss Mississippi contestants compete in final round of prelims

Six Miss Mississippi contestants took top honors this week in Miss Mississippi preliminary competition.

Miss Turtle Creek, Anne Elizabeth Buys, won in swimwear Friday night, and Miss Riverland, Michaela Moore won in Talent.

Friday was the final night of preliminary competition.  In swimwear, a winner from last year, Miss Dixie Laura Lee Lewis was second runner up in 2015.

Also competing in swimwear was fourth runner up in 2015, Miss Mississippi State University, Meredith Thomas.

But the night belonged to Miss Turtle Creek Anne Elizabeth Buys, a former Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen.

"It is an every day job, whether its preparing for lifestyle and fitness, developing your talent, keeping up with the news and current events," said Buys. "And I can say that every aspect of preparing for this competition, prepares you for life."

In talent, there were singers, a monologue and Rhythm Bones, but Michaela Moore, Miss Riverland, a Top 10 finalist in 2015 and a preliminary talent winner, took the top spot Friday night.

"I used the same song this year," said Moore. "Same song, different set of judges, so I figured let's try my luck again and it really came through for me. I just said a prayer and any time I go out on the stage, I'm there to entertain the audience to just be able to bring joy to people because that's really what performing is all about for me."

The contestants will now have to wait until Saturday night to find out if they have scored high enough to make the Top 10 for a chance at becoming the next Miss Mississippi.
