COPIAH COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

MHP officials said one person was killed in a Sunday morning accident in Copiah County.

Corporal Brandon Fortenberry said authorities received the call around 6:37 a.m. about the accident on Highway 28. Fortenberry identified the deceased as Gibson Britt. Officials say he died at the scene.

Copiah County Coroner Ellis Stuart said because of the condition of the body, due to the crash and fire, it's believed the deceased is a 24-year-old male from Wesson.

Corporal Fortenberry said a semi-truck, driven by Richard McCormick, was traveling east on Hwy. 28 and Britt's vehicle was traveling west.

According to Fortenberry, Britt's vehicle crossed the center line and struck the semi head on, causing Britt's vehicle to catch fire.

Fortenberry said McCormick was taken to Hardy Wilson Hospital and released with minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
