Miss Mississippi 2016, Laura Lee Lewis is living the dream. She was crowned Saturday night and another crown could possibly be in her future.
At one point, the remaining three contestants for the Miss Mississippi crown were all former Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen winners. Molly May went on to become second runner up, and Anne Elizabeth Buys was first runner up.
"It was so exciting. Three Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teens were the Top 3 and in the moment, I was excited to see the three of us, but in that moment, I wanted so badly for it to be me, but it’s God's plan," said Lewis. "It's His timing and His timing said I was ready to be Miss Mississippi."
Laura Lee Lewis says winning the title of Miss Mississippi 2016 is a dream come true.
"This year, I said I'm gonna be 200 percent Laura Lee Lewis, because that's what Miss Mississippi and Miss America is all about," said Lewis. "It is the ideal woman who is completely herself," Lewis told us.
Miss Mississippi says she is also grateful for the scholarship money.
"I won $10,000 towards my college education and through my past four years competing, I've also gotten over $24,000 in scholarships," said Lewis. "And if you're struggling financially for school, this is incredible, because I have no college debt because of this program."
It has been 30 years since Miss Mississippi won the national title. Lewis says she is hoping she will be the state representative who will win, which would be a great way to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Miss Mississippi in 2017.
