Family of man killed by Tupelo officer holds news conference

The attorney for Antwun Shumpert's family is having a news conference at 4 p.m.

The City of Tupelo also held a news conference on Wednesday to discuss new developments in the investigation into Shumpert's death. 

37-year-old Shumpert was shot and killed by a Tupelo police officer following a traffic stop.

The deadly shooting happened on June 18 when Shumpert was pulled over by Officer Tyler Cook. Investigators said Shumpert ran away after he was stopped and was later found hiding under a house.

When Cook approached him, police said Shumpert attacked the officer and his canine.

Shumpert was shot four times and later died in the hospital.

A federal lawsuit has been filed by Shumpert's family their attorney has asked the city for a $35 million settlement.
