The Mississippi Department of Corrections is investigating the weekend death of an inmate at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County.

Rankin County Coroner David Ruth confirms that the medical examiner has ruled the inmate's death a homicide. The MDOC criminal investigations division is investigating this inmate death.

The preliminary results of an autopsy indicated that 29-year-old Michael D. Riddle was the victim of foul play.

Riddle was in prison for residential burglary larceny and armed robbery in Lee County. He received a total of 20 years to serve, with three years’ probation to follow for the burglary conviction. He was sentenced on June 23, 2010.

Correctional officers found Riddle unconscious in his cell while conducting security checks at 7:22 p.m. Saturday.

No one has been charged, and no further information is being released at this time because of the ongoing investigation.
