MDOT announces weekend closure of I-20 Rankin Co.

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Department of Transportation will close a portion of Interstate 20, in Rankin County for about 12 hours over the weekend.

MDOT crews will close all directions of Interstate 20 in Rankin County from Downtown Brandon Highway 80 Exit 56 to East Brandon Highway 80 Exit 59 for bridge work on the Highway 471 overpass. Traffic will be detoured onto Highway 80 through the City of Brandon.

The closure of the eastbound Interstate 20 lanes will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 16.

The closure of both directions of Interstate 20 will be begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 16, and last until 6 a.m. Sunday, July 17. That stretch of highway is three miles long.

Law enforcement will be on site to direct traffic onto Highway 80.

Motorists should use caution as there may be delays through the detour route and are encouraged to plan their trip ahead of time.
