JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Fondren area business owner is firing back after nuisance complaints were lodged against his bar and restaurant.

Residents on Patton Avenue, where the corner bar, Fondren Garage, is located, say they have had it with late night noise, booze and being blocked in their driveways.About a dozen residents who live on the Patton Avenue, expressed they want it shut down.

"It's bothering me, because it's bothering my neighbors and it's keeping them up at night," said Charlie Brenner, who lives at the end of Patton Avenue.

Closing time during the week is midnight and on the weekend, 2 a.m.

"Last night was the first time I heard there was a problem," said owner Chip Matthews. "No one has come to me to complain."

Councilwoman Margaret Barrett-Simon claims the business owner has not followed certain zoning ordinances and permits.

"Well that would just be a blatant lie," Matthews fired back. "Because the zoning department, the people at the city, were helpful with us getting out permits. We have our beer permit, our restaurant permit, business licenses - all issued by the city last March."

"We are not breaking any laws," added Matthews. "It's an overlay district, it's a business district. People are allowed to park in the streets and they wanted this when they started building Fondren years ago. And now you are in a situation where they don't want it?"

"The answer is to have a buffer between the commercial district and the residential district," said Brenner.

The only buffer that exists is a small parking lot the owner rents for patrons between his business and the home next door.
