FLASHBACK to JULY 14, 1998: Before dawn, someone set fire to the Flea Market at the fairgrounds in Jackson.

The resulting fire destroyed roughly a third of the building. Some of the vendors lost all of their merchandise.

After a lot of clean-up and repairs, the flea market reopened about three months later.

It did not last, however. In 2005, the Mississippi Fair Commission did not renew the market's lease, and it shut down for good.
