CONSIDER THIS: The Heat is Dangerous

Source: WLBT Source: WLBT

It’s July and in Mississippi and other areas across the country that means extreme heat. There have been several tragedies where children were left in vehicles.

Fortunately, other possible tragedies have been avoided because of people who were paying attention and rescued children who were left alone in hot cars.

It’s hard to believe we need to say this, but you cannot leave people or pets sitting in a car in this heat.

Consider This:

Even if think you can take care of a quick errand, that is very dangerous and can quickly turn into an emergency. Don’t do it.

If you are a parent you may say you could never forget your child, but I bet the parents who are grieving thought the same thing. Don’t take a chance. Make sure you take precautions to keep that from happening.

Get into a habit of always opening your back door. As a reminder leave something in the back seat like a wallet or purse, cell phone, your lunch, or even your shoes.

Make sure your daycare calls you if your child isn’t dropped off. And if you spot a child alone in a hot car, call 911 immediately.

We live in the south so we’re going to have excessive heat for many more weeks. Be on high alert for children left alone in cars, make sure there are reminders in place to check your back seat, and hopefully we can prevent another tragedy from happening.
