JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hinds County Sheriff Victor Mason announced that 22-year-old Derrick Deonte Richardson, of Utica, has been arrested for breaking into two county residences.

U.S. Marshals Service Task Force members apprehended Richardson this morning in Jackson.

Richardson is charged with burglarizing two homes on Herren Road in Utica. According to HCSO Criminal Investigations Division investigators, Richardson is also the prime suspect in at least four other recent Utica house burglaries.

Three long guns, a handgun, two laptops, a flat screen TV, costume jewelry, and a maroon 1998 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck are among the items stolen from the two Herren Road homes.

“Burglaries are extremely traumatic for victims,” said Sheriff Mason. “Burglars steal not only people’s possessions, but their sense of security. This is certainly true in more rural areas like Utica. To do this to folks – to steal their peace of mind – makes burglars an especially low sort of criminal.”
