How about 3 cheers for 2 kids that are 1 step away from the biggest stage in golf.
Patton Kincaid and William Marshall are racking up medals at a Tori Bowie pace. The Madison natives are in the Drive, Chip, and Putt regional finals.
Patton said "It's pretty exciting, cause I never to TPC, I really wanted to go. It's pretty exciting." William also in good spirits about the trip to Florida. "It's very exciting, because I have never done this before, and I haven't made it past the 2nd level."
The kids can bomb it further than I could dream of and are accurate around the greens. If they can put it all together this weekend, Patton and William would advance to the national championship at Augusta National. That's motivation enough to play on the same hallowed venue as their favorite pros.
Patton likes the most popular southpaw on the PGA Tour. "Probably Phil Mickelson, because he's a lefty and I like him." William likes the look of another Tour superstar. "Rory McIlroy, because I like his style."
Like every golfer, Patton and William honing in on the tee and green to get ready for Saturday. William is working on "my driving, not hitting it left and right. And chipping, keeping the clubface straight." Patton is focusing on the little things. "Where to play the ball, where to hit it. Working on my impact and trying to take the right club every time."
They're two of six Mississippi natives in the Drive, Chip, & Putt Regional finals. The competition is Saturday at the TPC Sawgrass, the home of The Players Championship.
