JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Dateline NBC will air never-before-seen interviews and case documents concerning the investigation into JonBenet Ramsey's murder.

In 1999, a grand jury recommended indictments against Ramsey’s parents, but district attorney Alex Hunter did not sign the indictments and decided not to take the case to trial. In 2008, Hunter’s successor, district attorney Mary Lacy, wrote a letter exonerating the Ramseys, based on DNA evidence. The case remains open.

For two hours on September 9 at 8 p.m. on WLBT,  delve deep into the investigation with crucial case documents that have never been released, as well as exclusive interviews with Denver detectives, Ramsey family members, and the 9-1-1 dispatcher who answered the emergency call from JonBenet's mother on December 26, 1996.

The Dateline NBC special also features an interview with Bob Whitson, a retired detective sergeant at Boulder PD who was at the Ramsey house on the day the murder investigation began.

“The behavior at the scene does not match up [with the Ramseys]," Whitson tells Dateline NBC. “It matches up with a sexually sadistic person and a psychopath.”

Whitson's reasoning, along with mountains of other evidence never before made public, will be part of the two-hour Dateline NBC special airing on WLBT on Friday, September 9 at 8 p.m.
