Press Release from Mississippi Braves

PEARL, MS -- Mallex Smith finished a homer shy of the cycle as the Braves routed the Blue Wahoos, scoring nine runs on 17 hits to claim a 9-2 victory Friday night at Trustmark Park. With the win, the Braves take a 2-1 lead in the South Divisional Series and look to clinch a spot in the championship series with another win Saturday evening.

Mississippi dropped game one at Pensacola but won games two and three of the best-of-five-game series. In the North Divisional Series, Jackson also leads Montgomery two-games-to-one. In game four of the SLDS, Braves right-hander Lucas Sims (5-5, 2.67) counters Wahoos righty Tyler Mahle (6-3, 4.92). First pitch is slated for 6:00 PM. Gates open at 5:00 PM.
Offensively, the Braves pounded out 17 hits Friday night. Kade Scivicque went 4-for-4 at the plate. Carlos Franco, Joey Meneses and Smith all added three hits apiece. Dustin Peterson went 2-fo-4.
The M-Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Smith walked and Peterson singled to put runners at the corners with one out. Franco and Meneses then delivered back-to-back RBI-singles to put the Braves out front.
Smith doubled with two out in the second before Keith Curcio hit an inside-the-park home run to extend the M-Braves lead to 4-0.
Pensacola made it a 4-1 game in the third. Brandon Dixon reached on a force out and took second on an errant throw. Zach Vincej then singled to put runners at the corners, and Ray Chang followed with a base hit to left, scoring Dixon.
Phillip Ervin walked and scored on Vincej's triple in the fifth to cut the Braves lead to 4-2.
Mississippi added another run in the bottom of the frame when Smith tripled and Peterson delivered a sacrifice fly to right.
Scivicque's RBI-single in the sixth extended the Braves lead to 6-2. Smith then drove him home with a base hit to right followed by a wild pitch that allowed Dylan Moore to score from third and make it an 8-2 contest.

Max Povse exited after 4.2 innings for the Braves and did not qualify for the decision. He surrendered two runs, one earned, on seven hits and two walks while fanning five. Akeel Morris (1-0) worked 1.1 innings in relief and picked up the win. Chad Sobotka and Taylor Lewis tossed the final three frames to finish the game.
