JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

According to Hinds County Sheriff Victor Mason, two Jackson men have been arrested for breaking into a Raymond home.

33-year-old Maurice Demond Taylor and 25-year-old Kenneth Ray Winters were taken into custody on Friday by HCSO Criminal Investigations Division (CID) investigators. Both men were charged with house burglary and felon in possession of a firearm.

Taylor also has two active house burglary warrants with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office.

The men concocted a scheme that involved renting a U-Haul truck. They then drove the U-Haul into driveways in county neighborhoods and knocked on doors asking for gas money. If no one came to the door, that residence was targeted for burglary.

After executing search warrants at three Jackson addresses early in the morning on Friday, Criminal Investigators recovered the following stolen property:

Four flat screen TVs, 1 crossbow, 2 handguns, 1 AK-47 assault rifle, 1 double barrel .22 rifle, 2 Sony DVD players, 1 laptop, 1 X-Box game console with games, 1 Play Station console, 1 gas mask, SKS and AK 47 ammunition, 1 military hunting knife and a stand-up air compressor.

“I guess some criminals think it’s still open season for stealing out in the county,” said Sheriff Mason. “Think again - those days are over.”

Sheriff Mason further stated, “Our investigators know that the citizens of this county work hard for what they have, and we are going to work just as hard to see that victims get their property back.”
