JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Egg Bowl is moving back to Thanksgiving Day and some area fans couldn't be happier.

I think it was a travesty that they moved it away from it," said Tim South. "That was a tradition. That was something that we looked forward to, and I'm glad that they're moving it back.

ESPN reported Tuesday afternoon that the 2017 matchup between rivals Ole Miss and Mississippi State will be played on Thanksgiving, November 23.

"When they moved it away from Thanksgiving, I think it kind of took away from the ambiance of football in itself," added Don Daniels. "So I kind of like it back on Thanksgiving.

The full SEC football schedule was released Tuesday night and Ole Miss and Mississippi State will meet in the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving Day for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

The Battle for the Golden Egg was last played on Turkey Day in 2013 and 21 of 112 meetings between the Bulldogs and Rebels have been played on Thanksgiving.

Some complained then about it taking over the holiday, others just say, eat early.

"You do most of your stuff at the beginning of that day, as far as eating," said Sean Rushing. "Watching the football is just something that comes after. Something where you kind of kick back your feet and relax.

"We'll have family together that day anyway," Scott Shearer. "And I think it's a good way to bond as a family watching football.

Come next Thanksgiving, the Rebels and Bulldogs will have the college football stage to themselves.

"There's not a lot of games on Thanksgiving," said Zack Boone. "So when people tune in all across the country, they get to see good quality football.
