Take a quick glance at the Week 2 and 3 Southern Miss opponents and you'd likely expect lopsided victories in both. That was the case last week in a 56-0 victory over Savannah State, but not so fast this week.
The Golden Eagles welcome a Troy team that took No. 2 Clemson to the brink on Saturday before falling 30-24. It was a performance that caught the attention of the college football world, and the fellas in Hattiesburg were no exception.
“I mean we already know Troy is an outstanding football team.” head coach Jay Hopson said. “That doesn't just wake up what we already knew, but it kind of wakes up the entire country. So we understand we have a really good football team coming in.”
“They always have a good team no matter where they're at.” added senior quarterback Nick Mullens. “They always have a good team, good defensive line, good secondary that will mix up coverages. So we’re excited for the matchup this week and it’s definitely going to be a dog fight.”
The Golden Eagles and Trojans kickoff at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
